SUNDERLAND 4 HULL 1 Sunderland have won 4-1, and they've been absolutely superb. Bent opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 13 minutes, but it was all too familiar for Sunderland fans as their side yet again failed to keep a lead as they conceded from yet another set piece two minutes from half time. However, Andy Reid put his side back in front shortly after the break with a thunderbolt of a strike, before some sloppy defending from Sonko allowed Bent to fire home a second goal on 66 minutes. Debutant Michael Turner rounded off proceedings with a headed goal from a corner 15 minutes from time.

IT'S ALL OVER Sunderland have thrashed Hull 4-1.
93'
HEADED AWAY Cana heads away a Stephen Hunt corner. With the exception of the silly free kick that lead to the Hull goal, Sunderland have been rock solid at the back this afternoon.
90'
INTO INJURY TIME Four minutes have been added. The final whistle couldn't come quick enough for Hull and their fans.
88'
CORNER Reid passes to Da Silva who swings in a cross, forcing Geovanni to knock the ball out for a corner. Olofinjana has just been booked.
85'
HE'S FUMING! Boyhood Sunderland fan Phil Brown is steaming on the touchline and is copping a lot of stick off the home fans. A post-match team talk on the pitch perhaps, Brownie?
82'
CRUISING Sunderland fans have started cheering every pass as their team are content to knock the ball around at ease.
80'
LAST SUB FOR SUNDERLAND Da Silva comes on for Malbranque. Da Silva goes to left-back and Richardson will push up into his natural left wing position. Hull's Bernard Mendy has also come on.
78'
ANOTHER CHANGE Bardsley has picked up a knock and is replaced by Mensah, another player making his debut for Sunderland today.
76'
SUNDERLAND CHANGES Bent won't get his hat-trick as he is replaced by Jones.
75'
GOOOOAL! Seconds after Andy Reid came close with a thunderbolt of a strike, he sends in a corner which debutant Michael Turner heads in to make it four.
73'
EASY ON THE EYE Attractive stuff there from Sunderland. Malbranque sends a lovely through ball to Bent, who picks out Campbell flying down the right. Campbell rounds Dawson before Dawson tracks back to win the ball.
71'
WASTED Geovanni has the perfect opportunity to test Gordon, and instead slams the ball into his team-mate McShane and out for a goal kick.
69'
BENT FOR ENGLAND! How often do you see Emile Heskey or Carlton Cole finish like that? Never!
66'
GOOOOAL! Super finish, but shocking defending! Bent receives the ball in the box, and rather than choosing to roll the ball to Campbell he blasts the ball under Myhill and into the net. Ibrahima Sonko seemed to think Bent was offside and did absolutely nothing to stop him!
64'
HULL SUB Jozy Altidore comes on for Ghilas. He has one goal to his name so far this season, which came in a Carling Cup tie against Southend.
61'
NO PENALTY A roar goes up as Cattermole goes down in the box, but Dawson definitely won the ball and Martin Atkinson waves away the appeals for a penalty.
58'
FIRST SUBSTITUTION Jan Vennegor of Hesselink replaces Craig Fagan to make his Premier League debut. I'll just be referring to him as Hesselink!
55'
HE'S A NEW MAN! Andy Reid had a number of sessions with a personal trainer in the summer, and it certainly seems to have paid dividends. He's been sprinting up and down the left flank all afternoon and shows no sign of tiring. Certainly Sunderland's best player so far.
53'
GOAL KICK Ghilas tries to hang the ball in the air for Fagan but his cross floats into touch.
50'
GREAT STUFF That goal came after a short but upbeat spell of pressure from the home side. Seconds before Reid made it 2-1, Malbranque released Bent, who tried to square the ball to Campbell, but Myhill was just slightly quicker and beat him to the ball.
49'
GOOOOAL! Bardsley tees up Andy Reid for a thunderous strike from the left-hand side which flies into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.
46'
CANA BOOKED Cana is booked for a challenge on Hunt, that's already his third of the season.
45'
WE'RE OFF Hull kick off the second half in bright sunshine here at the Stadium of Light.
45'
SUNDERLAND 1 HULL 1 It's 1-1 at half time, in a half that Sunderland have been the better side but have failed to hold on to their lead. Bent put the Black Cats 1-0 up on 13 minutes with a penalty, after Craig Fagan stupidly handled the ball in the box. Sunderland were guilty of giving away silly free kicks throughout the half, though, and were punished for it two minutes from the break when Ferdinand did just that. Ghilas swung the ball in for Zayatte to head home and Sunderland will be kicking themselves.
45'
HALF TIME It's 1-1 at the break.
43'
GOOOOAL! A free kick is fizzed in from the right hand side by Ghilas, Zayatte rises to meet it six yards from goal and heads in. It was a silly free kick that Ferdinand gave away, Steve Bruce won't be happy.
42'
RIGHT IDEA Fagan puts Zayatte through with a well-timed pass, shame he was offside.
39'
ZAYATTE SHOOTS Zayatte gives Craig Gordon his first real test of the afternoon. That was a decent save from the Scottish keeper considering he was unsighted.
36'
WHAT A RUN Richardson cuts in from the left and covers a fair bit of ground before exchanging passes with Malbranque. Richardson then tries to find Reid in the box but the pass is intercepted and Hull break. Cattermole is then booked for illegally breaking up the Hull counter-attack.
35'
FIRST BOOKING Ex-Sunderland man Paul McShane is booked for a reckless challenge, I think it was on Reid. 'What a waste of money' is the cry from the Hull faithful!
33'
EASY CATCH Andy Reid allows Stephen Hunt to turn and send a ball into the Sunderland box, promting Gordon to make a simple catch.
31'
EXCELLENT MOVE Sunderland string a number of passes together in midfield before Bardsley exchanges a neat one-two with Bent. Bardsley then tries to play in Malbranque lurking in the box but it doesn't quite come off.
28'
DAWSON CLEARS THE DANGER Malbranque tries to thread a pass through to Bent, but Dawson is there to cut it out.
25'
LINKING UP ON THE FLANK Richardson and Reid link up well down the left-hand side to win a throw near the corner flag. It's all Sunderland at the minute.
22'
ALL GOOD SO FAR FOR THE BLACK CATS Sunderland really have been impressive. The defending has been flawless, Cattermole's been spraying passes of pinpoint accuracy all over the place, Reid's crossing has been superb, and Campbell and Bent look threatening up front.
19'
GREAT SIGNING Michael Turner looks like he'll be a great purchase for Sunderland. He's been rock solid at the back so far and has won everything in the air. Money well spent, Mr Bruce!
17'
CALM DOWN, CRAIG! Fagan seems to have lost his head after that huge error, he's charging around like a headless chicken and throwing himself into challenges all over the shop. Be a pro, Craig - put it behind you and move on!
14'
WHY?!!! Fagan was under no pressure whatsoever, there was no need to handle the ball. He immediately sunk to his knees with his head in his hands when the penalty was given, Phil Brown doesn't look too happy either!
13'
GOOOOAL! Bent drives the spot-kick into the bottom left-hand corner to score his third goal of the season and put Sunderland a goal up.
12'
PENALTY What was Craig Fagan thinking?! A Sunderland corner is swung in and Fagan palms it away with his hand!
10'
OOOOH! That wasn't far off! Olofinjana finds Geovanni who has a crack from way out, and Gordon is forced to tip the ball over the bar.
8'
WELL WIDE Reid receives the ball in a promising position and chooses to go for goal rather than play the ball back into the box. The latter option may well have achieved better results.
6'
FIRST CHANCE Andy Reid crosses superbly for Bent, who can't quite connect with a firm header. Hunt clears and Hull breathe easy.
5'
LIVELY I know this technically isn't a north-east derby with both teams 91 miles apart, but it certainly has the feel of one. Balls have been fired into both boxes and the challenges are flying in, although no clean cut chances have been created yet.
2'
FROSTY RECEPTION Ex-Hull man Michael Turner has received a round of applause from the Hull fans, but Sunderland's other ex-Hull player Fraizer Campbell is taking a fair bit of stick from Tigers supporters!
SUNDERLAND TEAM Gordon, Bardsley, Turner, Ferdinand, Malbranque, Richardson, Cana, Reid, Cattermole, Campbell, Bent. Sub: Carson, Nosworthy, Mensah, Da Silva, Henderson, Murphy, Jones

HULL TEAM NEWS The man with the longest name in the Premier League, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, is likely to make his Premier League debut at the expense of Caleb Folan. Perhaps Hull's physio team weren't paying attention when they were being taught how to treat knee injuries at medical school, as Dean Marney and Anthony Gardner are sidelined with knee problems along with long term dodgy-kneed absentees Ian Ashbee, Jimmy Bullard and Richard Garcia. Hull haven't beaten Sunderland for over 19 years.

SUNDERLAND TEAM NEWS Craig Gordon and Martin Fulop are doubtful to feature due to thigh and heel injuries, so young Northern Irish keeper Trevor Carson may make his senior debut. Ex-Hull defender Michael Turner is set to make his first start for Sunderland.

PREVIEW Greetings from the Stadium of Light, where Sunderland host Hull this afternoon. It must be said that these two clubs are remarkably similar – both teams are the sole clubs of proud, working class cities on the east coast of England, with loyal and passionate fan bases. Both survived relegation by the skin of their teeth last season. Not to mention, both are managed by two of the most irritating men in the Premier League, who have lofty ambitions to become the next Sir Alex Ferguson (Bruce) and Brian Clough (Brown) but will probably never get any further than managing average mid-table Premier League sides. Anyway, enough of the pettiness, lets hope it's a good game!
